What do hairdressers wear to work

I do however like to be smart every day and some colleagues would rather be more casual. Clients may chose to have a stylist that is similar to them in style and therefore they may feel like that particular person is more likely to understand their needs.

Luckily for us this seems to be the most popular choice for salon managers too. Others will say that you must be smartly dressed at all times and will just have either a uniform or a colour dress code for the assistants.

If it has to be any kind of uniform I would prefer it to just be the assistants that have to dress in colour-code because as I have said before, we are stylists so should be free to chose our own clothes, be individuals and attract the type of clients we want to style!

I personally think that this is a very dated idea and makes the salon seem old-fashioned. In my opinion this type of uniform will attract the older clientele — but then on the other hand you may be looking to attract the older generation.

This comes with the added benefit of not ruining your own clothes with bleach stains etc. Like colored belts, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. A good piece of advice is to keep "the girls" under control! More than 2 inches of cleavage is just too much.

As professional hair stylists, our boobs often wind up right at eye level of our clients. While the men will enjoy the view, their wives won't like it one bit. It will actually discredit you as a professional. The more cleavage you show the more it pulls at your reputation as a serious stylist. Plus, women don't want to look down your blouse.

To keep a classy, professional image, only have BAM in one area. If you are wearing a form fitting top showing cleavage, don't wear a short skirt or tight pants. See what I mean? Having too much BAM gives the wrong impression to maintain your professionalism. I used to work in a high income suburb salon.

We had a stylist who liked to wear really crazy outfits and color her hair wild, vibrant colors like blue and green. How prospective contractors and employees present themselves at job interviews may give you insight into how well their attire and appearance will fit with your salon's style.

Your own appearance and that of your manager also must fit the profile set up in your dress code, or you run the risk of resentment at the double standard you embody. Small Business Managing Employees Employees. By Elizabeth Mott. Dress Codes Vs. Salon Image An upscale style studio in an elite shopping district may need a dress code that specifies a black-and-white theme, with white smocks, black trousers or skirts and white blouses or shirts, and a policy that limits visible piercings or requires that sleeve tattoos be covered.

Expressing Individuality Salon employees may think of themselves as artists because of the creative nature of their work.
