The mds and mdsworkers, among other processes, have been hard at it since! This was quite a relief, as indexing was unreliable until I discovered, in Terminal mode, that it had been disabled how, I do not know. I used a sudo command to reenable indexing. That would be about two hours from now -- 30 minutes past 11pm, Pacific Time -- for a total of four hours.
